History of O'Donoghues

Probably the best known traditional Irish music pub in Dublin. O'Donoghue's always has the sound of music coming from its walls, frequented of the years by many musicians from the Dubliner’s to Bruce Springsteen. O'Donoghue's has a rich history in providing a welcome for locals & tourist alike to play a tune or enjoy a pint.
In 1934 Paddy and Maureen O’Donoghue began running the bar It was during this time the Pub is became famous for the nightly traditional Irish music sessions and was where the popular Irish folk group, the Dubliners formed their band. Many other notable Irish musicians from The Fureys to, Seamus Ennis, Joe Heaney have played at O’Donoghue’s and their photographs line the walls from top to bottom.

In 1977 Co Longford born Dessie Hynes succeded Paddy and Maureen O’Donoghue as proprietor and continued on the music tradition. O’Donoghue’s golden years followed with the bar packed nightly with musicians and politicians coming to see him. Dessie with his family ran the pub for 11 years with his family.
In 1988 it was bought by well know publicans Oliver Barden and John Mahon. Oliver is still the proprietor today and continues to run the pub with his family and staff.
